Description-Summary

Economic Research Associate for Center for American Progress Senior Fellow Gene Sperling. The associate will: assist on written work, including policy papers and op-ed columns; perform extensive original research; analyze budget and economic data; write briefing memos for speeches and media appearances; and coordinate Sperling’s projects and events.

Requirements:

Candidates should have: a policy or financial services background; excellent research, writing, and analytical skills; proven ability to work under pressure/tight deadlines; familiarity with markets and data analysis; and strong organizational skills. A bachelor's degree is required, and an advanced degree or relevant work experience is preferred, but ability to perform, more than any formal qualification, is critical.

Job Responsibilities:

* Research, write, and analyze economic news and policy issues
* Support Gene Sperling with his other ongoing work in the areas of tax, fiscal, savings, and labor market policies
* Help organize Sperling’s events, including the CAP series on Globalization and the Social Compact
* Provide research support to the economics team and Wonk Room team

Job Requirements:

* Ability to multitask and prioritize, and ability to toggle between in-depth research and short-term assignments under time pressure
* Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, and a strong comfort with analyzing and gathering economic and budget data
* Facility with economic concepts and analysis
* Strong oral and written communications skills, including ability to connect with a general audience
* Comfort with working under pressure/tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well on a team

Job Qualifications:

At a minimum, bachelor’s degree in economics, public policy, law, or related field and a minimum of two years professional work experience. Beyond this, applicants with various levels of experience and education are encouraged to apply, and responsibilities and opportunities will be adjusted accordingly
The following are not required, but are a plus:
* Hill and/or executive branch experience
* Business experience
* Non-profit experience
* Experience working with 501 (c) (3) and 501 (c) (4) organizations
