Description

The Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for International Studies at The Heritage Foundation (a non-profit, nonpartisan, non-governmental organization in Washington, D.C.) announces two student fellowships for the period of August to December 2008 open to Ph.D. candidates pursuing degrees in social sciences and humanities fields. Fellows will have the opportunity to work closely with scholars at The Heritage Foundation as well as to conduct an independent directed-research project on issues related to international relations, foreign affairs, and national security. Participants will be mentored by a Heritage scholar. They will spend half their time supporting Heritage programs and half their time conducting independent research. Fellows will be required to prepare and submit two research papers (5-10 pages) over the course of the program.

Candidates may apply for one of the following areas. 1)Islam and Liberty Project. The aim of this initiative is to develop a network of scholars and research exploring the compatibility of Western values and concepts with Islamic religious practice around the world. 2)The Future of NATO Project. The aim of this activity is to develop a body of proposals to transform the transatlantic alliance.

Education:

The program is open to Ph.D. candidates enrolled in a full-time Ph.D. program or those who recently were awarded a doctoral degree. Preference will be given to students who have completed required doctoral coursework. Fellowships are open to students in a variety of disciplines including history, economics, public policy, anthropology, international relations, and other social sciences and humanities fields.
