Description-

The Americas Society and Council of the Americas (AS/COA) seek a qualified, self-motivated individual for a paid, web-development internship in its policy program. The intern will have the unique opportunity to code and build a new website for the AS/COA policy journal, AmericasQuarterly. Once online, the position will entail updating the new website, adding additional components and establishing new web-based relationships with other Latin American think tanks and policy journals. The intern will be expected to bring creativity, enthusiasm and dedication to the position.

Key areas of focus during the internship will be:

* Develop and update a new interactive website at: www.americasquarterly.org:
* Design web user interfaces, from wireframes to HTML mockups
* Perform usability testing
* Write clean HTML/CSS/JavaScript code that integrates with a PHP back-end
* Outreach to other online publications

Ideal candidates will have proficiency in the following programs:

* Server-side, database-driven application design and development, using PHP (or similar) and SQL
* Solid grounding in software design principles and methodologies
* Versed in user interface design, information architecture, and usability issues
* Web user interface implementation using cross-browser-compatible HTML and CSS
* Familiarity with UNIX (any flavor) preferred
* JavaScript a plus
* Knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese a plus.
