Why Drug Policy Alliance?
The Drug Policy Alliance is the nation's leading organization devoted to ending the war on drugs and advancing drug policies guided by science, compassion, health and human rights. DPA pursues these goals through innovative campaigns and in partnership with grassroots community organizations, researchers, and service providers.
Why Academic Engagement?
DPA believes in drug policy driven by science, research, and top-notch scholarship. Our Office of Academic Engagement is working to more deeply engage researchers and academics in DPA’s work and the drug policy reform movement more broadly. Founded by Princeton Law Professor Ethan Nadelmann, DPA has a rich tradition of bringing together key thinkers from around the world to tackle the complex problems posed by drug policy. Building on that legacy, the Office of Academic Engagement supports scholars in doing advocacy, convenes experts from a range of disciplines to inform the field, and strengthens DPA’s use of research and scholarship in developing and advancing its policy positions.
Researchers and academics have an important role to play in shaping drug policy. Their research and the credibility they can lend to an issue are important tools in influencing public debates. Through the OAE, we synthesize existing research to inform policy and work with academics and researchers so that they can directly engage policymakers and the public to advance drug policy reform.
