Position Description

RAND is looking for Industrial/Organizational (I/O) psychologists at all levels of experience who can support and extend our policy research. Persons with strong research skills, experience in applying these to policy-relevant topics, and interests in developing a career as a policy researcher are encouraged to apply.  RAND behavioral scientists work on multi-disciplinary research teams, producing objective, scientific analyses in peer-reviewed journals and technical reports to guide policymakers on a diverse set of issues.

I/O psychologists participate in research encompassing a broad array of policy topics at RAND, including topics related to military workforce and training, K-12 and higher education, health and healthcare, public safety, and national security.


Experience conducting research that is policy relevant

Strong theoretical, methodological, and quantitative skill

All research positions at RAND require excellent analytic skills, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing; the ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team; and a strong commitment to RAND's core values of quality and objectivity.

Education Requirements

PhD in I/O psychology required (you may also apply if you are at the dissertation stage and expect to complete your PhD within a year).

Security Clearance

Some research may require a security clearance. In order to obtain a security clearance, one of the requirements is US Citizenship.

Writing Sample Required

A writing sample is required for this position.

Attachments may be in pdf, doc, docx, txt, rtf, htm, html, ppt, or pptx format

Electronic, unclassified samples preferred

Writing samples must be in English

Samples should generally be in the range of 10-15 pages in published form, or 20-30 pages in manuscript form

One writing sample is sufficient if it is a published journal article from a refereed source, otherwise  two writing samples are required

Newspaper articles are not appropriate writing samples
