Description – The Organization

The Coalition on Human Needs (CHN) is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and energetic individual for full-time internship. Interns will be involved in all aspects of the work of the Coalition including development of research information and data, preparation for coalition meetings, frequent updates and development of website, development of social media and blog content, disseminating member information, announcements, research studies, and legislative updates through multiple listservs, development of briefing materials for members and Congressional staff, attending and monitoring Congressional committee hearings and advocacy briefings, providing program assistance for communications, special projects and administrative support of staff.

This internship is an excellent opportunity to learn about national advocacy organizations, nonprofit program management and coalition building, public interest advocacy and development of public policy, and all aspects of the Congressional, budgetary and legislative process. It will give the intern the chance to interact daily with a large number of advocates in Washington DC who promote the protection, support, and wellbeing of our society’s most voiceless and vulnerable people. A $150 bi-weekly stipend will be given to aide with living and transportation costs during the duration of the internship.


 Excellent writing, editing, research, and organizational skills
 Commitment to public interest advocacy, organizing, and social justice
 Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, creative, enthusiastic, and able to balance multiple priorities simultaneously. Interns often work individually and unsupervised.
 Experience with economics, statistics, and analysis is a plus
 Experience with communications, specifically social media and/or website content management is a plus

CHN was founded in 1981 to bring together organizations and advocates who promote policies that support and enrich the lives of low-income and vulnerable families and individuals throughout the United States. CHN’s members include civil rights, religious, labor, and advocacy organizations concerned with the wellbeing of low-income individuals, children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities. CHN helps more than 200 national and grassroots organizations work together to raise awareness about and support for issues affecting poor and vulnerable populations in our country.
