Head of Contracts, Policy and Governance

University of Southampton

The University of Southampton is a research intensive university, with research income in excess of £125 million. We are looking for an exceptional person to manage our Contracts, Policy and Governance team. You will be the lead expert within Research and Innovation Services on research and development collaboration and contracting, including internationally, and on regulatory compliance matters for research undertaken at the University.

Research and Innovation Services has recently realigned its core activities creating this new position of Head of Contracts, Policy and Governance. You will lead a team of approximately eighteen professionals specialised in research contracting, governance and research policy development in alignment of the University’s Research and Enterprise Strategy. You will report to the Director of Research and Innovation Services and will be a key member of the Department’s management team. You will participate in the development of the University’s strategy and assure the execution of that strategy to the benefit of the University and society as a whole.

As well as having considerable research contract experience and being commercially astute, you will have strong knowledge and experience of leading teams in the Higher Education Sector have excellent communication skills, be well-organised with the ability to multi-task and to work well as part of virtual teams. You will be a self-starter and enjoy the challenge of making things happen in a fast-moving environment.
